In a disturbing incident that has left Madhya Pradesh shocked, an 18-year-old former student attacked a 26-year-old guest teacher by setting her on fire on Monday afternoon in Narsinghpur district.
The accused, identified as Suryansh Kochar, once studied at Excellence School (Utkrisht Vidyalaya) in the Kotwali police station area. Police said the attack stemmed from a personal grudge after the teacher filed a complaint against him for misbehavior.

According to investigators, the incident occurred around 3:30 PM, when Suryansh went to the teacher’s home carrying a bottle filled with petrol. Without saying a word, he poured it on her and set her ablaze before running away.
The teacher, who sustained 10–15% burn injuries, was immediately rushed to the district hospital. Doctors have stated that although the burns are serious, they are not life-threatening. She is currently undergoing treatment.
Police revealed that the student and the teacher had known each other for over two years. During this time, Suryansh is said to have developed a one-sided affection towards her. The situation escalated after the teacher reported an inappropriate comment he made during the school’s Independence Day function.
"This is a case of one-sided affection and personal vendetta," said Sub-Divisional Police Officer Manoj Gupta.
"The teacher wore a saree for the school's August 15th program, which the accused commented on inappropriately. She lodged a complaint, which angered him. He then planned and executed this attack. A case under Section 124A and other relevant IPC sections has been registered. Further action will follow after recording the victim's full statement."
Following the attack, the Kotwali police acted swiftly and tracked the accused to Kalyanpur village under the Dongargaon police station area. He was arrested within hours and is currently in custody.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation and assured strict action in the case.
