'I compared advent calendar prices at Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's - 1 is way cheaper'

Gone are the days when Christmas was the only day to give presents. Advent calendars seem to become more elaborate every year, with extravagant options revealing a new gift behind each door every day.

From jewellery advent calendars which can reach the hundreds, to luxury make-up brands offering minatures behind each door - or even the £89 advent calendar at Rococo, where you pay for the privilege of picking your own truffles - there an array of expensive options. However, luxury calendars can just add to the financial stress before Christmas. So, I've gone back to basics and found my favourite chocolate advent calendars under £10, from Maltesers to Dairy Milk, and compared them across supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsbury's to find out who is selling them for less.

Anything Maltesers creates is a knockout in my opinion. Whether it's the Malteser bunnies or these truffles, the flavour is unmatched, and this calendar is the pick of the season for me. It really pays to have loyalty cards for these calendars as they can knock up to £3.75 off the price.

This is one of the most affordable advent calendars for those who don't want plain chocolate and prefer something a little different in the run-up to Christmas. Mars' Milky Way calendars are retailing for just £2.47 right now, however, it is not stocked across the supermarkets.

I firmly believe Heroes are the best chocolate tin at Christmas time. While the Galaxy chocolates in Celebrations hold the top title, every single chocolate in the Heroes box is a hit. There is a clear supermarket winner for this calendar, with Asda more than £1 cheaper than any competitor thanks to its pricing Rollback, and you don't even need a loyalty card.

This brand-new advent calendar for 2025 is sure to be a crowd-pleaser this year. The iconic Dairy Milk has been blended with crunchy Biscoff pieces and spread, although you only get 12 of these chunks, and the rest are plain chocolate. It's retailing for as low as £3.98, making it an ideal option if you have lots of calendars to buy but still want something a little different.
