A shocking murder case has rocked Bengaluru’s medical community after a surgeon allegedly confessed to killing his wife in a message to his lover. Dr. Mahendra Reddy , a general surgeon, is accused of murdering his wife, Dr. Kruthika Reddy, a dermatologist, by administering an overdose of an anesthetic drug. What makes the case more disturbing is the message he reportedly sent moments after the crime “I killed my wife for you.”

According to investigators, Mahendra sent the message to the woman he was in a relationship with through a digital payment application, shortly after the incident. The message was discovered during a forensic analysis of his mobile phone, providing critical evidence in the case. The woman has been questioned and her statement recorded, though her identity remains undisclosed for now.

The tragic incident took place on April 21, when Mahendra allegedly injected Kruthika with Propofol, a powerful anesthetic drug. He later rushed her to a nearby hospital, claiming she had suddenly fallen ill, but she was declared dead on arrival. At the time, Mahendra told doctors she had been unwell and was under treatment, raising no initial suspicions.

However, the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report changed everything. It confirmed the presence of Propofol in Kruthika’s organs a substance typically used under strict medical supervision. The findings indicated deliberate administration, pointing toward a criminal act. During the inspection of their home, the police recovered crucial evidence, including a cannula set, injection tube, and medical equipment, suggesting the overdose was administered at home.

Following the report, Kruthika’s father lodged a police complaint, accusing Mahendra of intentionally murdering his daughter. Investigators soon began piecing together a pattern of deceit and control. Mahendra, who was believed to have used his medical expertise to mask the crime as a natural death, was finally arrested on October 15, nearly six months after the incident.

Speaking about the case, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said, “Evidence collected till now points at the role of the husband in the crime, as he was the person who brought her to the hospital initially and didn’t mention anything that could have gone wrong. He claimed she was not in good health and was undergoing treatment. Now we have learnt that she was injected with some sedatives, which shows there was a malicious intention.”

The couple, both doctors at Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru, had married on May 26 last year. Friends and colleagues reportedly saw them as a promising pair in both life and profession. But behind the façade of a stable marriage, investigators believe there were tensions brewing leading to a crime that has stunned the medical fraternity.

What began as an apparent case of sudden illness has unraveled into a chilling tale of betrayal and obsession. With the confession message and forensic evidence in hand, police now believe Mahendra meticulously planned the murder a calculated act driven by his extramarital affair.
