Kerala Govt Offers 20 Kg Rice At Subsidised Rates To Ration Card Holders For Onam

In a festive boost ahead of Onam, Kerala 's Food and Civil Supplies Minister G.R. Anil has announced a string of welfare measures to ease the burden on families across the state. All ration card holders will receive 20 kg of rice at just ₹25 per kg through Maveli stores, adding to the already subsidised supplies.
This means many households could stock up over 40 kg of rice at heavily subsidised rates just in time for the festive season.
These rates are a big relief for households preparing for Onam sadhya, the grand traditional feast.
Extra Rice for Every Category
Speaking at the inauguration of the newly upgraded Maveli Super Store at Elettil Vattoli in Kozhikode, the Minister outlined the upcoming benefits:- 20 kg rice at ₹25/kg for all ration card holders via Maveli stores
- 8 kg rice already provided under existing schemes
- Additional rice allotments through ration shops:
- White card holders: 15 kg more
- Blue card holders: 10 kg more
- Red card holders: 5 kg more
This means many households could stock up over 40 kg of rice at heavily subsidised rates just in time for the festive season.
Subsidised Essentials
- Along with rice, other essentials are being made more affordable:
- Red chillies at ₹115.50/kg with subsidy
- Coconut oil at ₹349 per litre, with promises of a further price cut by month-end

Mobile Supply Units to Reach More Areas
