In a shocking case of unrequited love spiralling into cybercrime, a Chennai-based software engineer has been arrested for sending 21 bomb threat emails across Gujarat. Her alleged motive? Revenge against the man she once wanted to marry. What followed was a digitally orchestrated panic across multiple states, all sparked by heartbreak.

From Rejection to Revenge
Rene Joshilda , a senior consultant at a multinational firm in Chennai, was reportedly devastated after her love interest, Divij Prabhakar, married someone else earlier this year. According to police, what started as emotional turmoil quickly transformed into a calculated plan to frame him. "She loved Divij Prabhakar and wanted to marry him, but it remained one-sided. Her dreams crashed when Prabhakar married another girl in February, filling her with revulsion and revenge" said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sharad Singhal.

A Tech-Savvy Trail of Threats
Using her technical expertise, Joshilda allegedly created multiple fake email accounts - some even under Prabhakar’s name - along with VPNs, virtual numbers, and dark web tools to mask her identity. Through these, she sent threatening emails warning of bomb blasts at public locations including the Narendra Modi Stadium , BJ Medical College, and schools in Ahmedabad.

One email chillingly declared, “Bomb successfully planted in Narendra Modi Stadium. Save the stadium if you can.” Another referred to a recent aviation disaster, claiming, “We crashed the Air India plane with our former CM… Now you know we are not playing.”

Pan-India Panic
The hoax wasn’t limited to Gujarat. Joshilda reportedly timed her messages to coincide with high-profile events and religious gatherings across 12 states, including Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala - triggering a wave of security alerts and investigations.

A Costly Mistake
Despite using advanced methods to stay anonymous, a minor digital misstep ultimately led to her arrest. Investigators had been tracking the case since June 3, when a school in Ahmedabad first received a bomb threat. After following the virtual breadcrumbs, authorities traced her location and apprehended her in Chennai.

“We were tracking her for a long time. She was very smart and didn’t reveal her virtual trail, but due to a small mistake of hers, we tracked her and caught her from her house in Chennai," police said. Substantial digital and physical evidence was recovered, confirming her involvement in the bomb hoax saga.

What began as heartbreak ended in a nationwide investigation, reminding us how digital tools, in the wrong hands, can turn love into a dangerous obsession.
