A shocking act of vandalism inside a Kolkata metro train has gone viral, drawing widespread condemnation on social media. A CCTV clip shows a man casually pulling out a black spray paint bottle and defacing a closed door of a moving metro coach, as stunned passengers watch silently.

The incident took place on the Blue Line, inside coach no. 4036 of metro rake MR-409. As the train sped through its route, the unidentified man sprayed black paint on Door No. 5 and exited the train before anyone could react.

The footage, now circulating widely online, has triggered an uproar among metro users and netizens alike, with many questioning the public’s silence and the boldness of such an act in broad daylight.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Metro Railway Kolkata confirmed the incident and expressed concern over the damage to the coach's aesthetic. "It has been observed that Door No.5 of Coach No. 4036 of a Metro rake (MR-409) operated on Blue Line has been defaced recently with black spray paint by a commuter. Such an act has caused damage to the aesthetic look of the coach. It has hurt the sentiment of Metro users," the statement said, urging commuters not to indulge in such behaviour.

Authorities emphasized that with CCTV coverage inside rakes and stations, such misdeeds are easily traceable. “With the help of CCTV cameras installed in the rakes and stations, such activities can be recorded easily and offenders can be identified. Legal action will be initiated against any person found to be engaged in such activities,” the statement warned.

Despite reviewing footage, police and metro officials are yet to identify the culprit. Meanwhile, search operations are underway, and passengers have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid engaging in or tolerating such acts.

This incident has not only raised concerns over public responsibility but also over the need for stronger deterrents against vandalism in public transport.
