A chilling discovery has shaken Rajasthan’s Khairthal Tijara district after the body of a man was found stuffed inside a drum on a rooftop. The victim, identified as 35-year-old Hansram alias Suraj from Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur, bore fatal injuries from a sharp weapon, police said.

Neighbours alerted authorities after a foul smell spread through the area. During inspection, officers discovered the victim’s throat had been slit with a sharp weapon. DSP Rajendra Singh Nirwan told PTI, “Salt had been put over the body to speed up decomposition.”

Hansram had been living in Adarsh Colony, Kishangarhbas, with his wife Sunita and their three children. He worked at a nearby brick kiln and had rented the rooftop room just six weeks ago. But since Saturday, both his family and the landlord’s son, Jitendra, who was often seen drinking with the victim have gone missing.

“The deceased was addicted to liquor and often drank with Jitendra. Since Saturday evening, both Jitendra and Hansram’s family members have been untraceable,” the DSP added.

Police have now launched a manhunt for the missing family and the landlord’s son. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and an FIR has been registered. Investigators are still piecing together how long the body remained in the drum and the possible motive behind the killing.

The gruesome case has echoes of similar drum-related murders in recent months. In March, Meerut police uncovered a shocking crime where a woman and her lover allegedly killed her husband, chopped up his body, and hid it in a drum under wet cement. The truth surfaced only when the couple’s daughter told neighbours, “Papa drum main hain.”

Again in June, Ludhiana witnessed a similar horror when rag pickers stumbled upon a blue drum in a vacant lot. Inside lay a man’s body, limbs tied and wrapped in a bedsheet before being stuffed into the container.

With three such spine-chilling cases surfacing within months, investigators in Rajasthan are racing against time to uncover the truth behind Hansram’s brutal death and the mysterious disappearance of his family.
