In a strange turn of events in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district, a monkey caused complete chaos after running off with a bag filled with cash. What made it even more dramatic was the sight of currency notes flying through the air, as if it were “raining money.”
How It All Began
Anuj Kumar, a resident of Dondapur village, had travelled with his father, Rohitash Chandra, for land registration work. They carried Rs 80,000 in cash safely tucked inside the trunk of their moped. While Rohitash was busy sorting out paperwork with his lawyer, a monkey cleverly opened the vehicle’s storage, pulled out the bag, and quickly climbed a nearby tree.
A Rain of Notes
Once on the tree, the monkey began tearing the bundle of cash and flinging notes in every direction. Eyewitnesses described it as a “rain of money” as currency fluttered down, sending people into a frenzy to grab as much as they could.
A viral video from the scene captures the commotion - villagers can be seen rushing to collect the scattered notes while the monkey continues tossing them around.
Big Loss for the Family
By the time things settled, Rohitash managed to recover only Rs 52,000. The remaining Rs 28,000 had either been picked up by opportunistic bystanders or destroyed by the monkey.
Monkey Menace in the Area
According to locals, this isn’t an isolated problem. Monkey troubles have been common in Bidhuna tehsil for years. One resident expressed frustration, saying, “We cannot even eat food in the premises. If there’s a slightest mistake, monkeys immediately attack or snatch things away.”
