Mumbai woke up to intense rain on Friday as several parts of the city and its suburbs witnessed heavy downpours, especially between 8 am and 9 am. According to the Disaster Management Department of the BMC, the western suburbs recorded the highest rainfall, crossing 35mm in just an hour. Authorities have predicted more heavy showers over the next 24 hours, urging residents to remain alert.
Rainfall Details Across Mumbai
Official data shows that Malpa Dongri Municipal School in Andheri reported the heaviest rainfall at 36mm within one hour. Close behind were KW Ward Office with 30mm and KE Ward Office with 29mm.

In the eastern suburbs, Bhandup’s Tembipada School recorded 24mm, Powai registered 22mm, and Veer Savarkar Marg School saw 21mm. Meanwhile, areas like Vikhroli, Vihar Lake and Tagore Nagar reported between 18–20mm.
Waterlogging Disruptions and Response
Heavy rainfall caused significant waterlogging, particularly at the Andheri subway, which had to be temporarily closed, leading to traffic congestion. To manage the situation, over 50 dewatering pumps were deployed across the city:

Orange Alert and Weather Forecast
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain throughout the day. Palghar remains under a yellow alert.
Active monsoon conditions over the Konkan coast are expected to bring continued heavy rainfall to isolated areas in Mumbai and neighbouring districts over the next 24 hours. With high tide expected later today, the risk of further waterlogging remains high.
