PTC Web Desk:  After a long break from active politics, Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of senior Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, has formally announced her return. During a Congress meeting in Chandigarh, she expressed her intention to contest the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections from the Amritsar East constituency, declaring that both her supporters and the people of the area want her to represent them again.

Speaking at the meeting, Navjot Kaur said she had fully recovered from health issues and was now prepared to re-enter public life with renewed energy. “I have always worked for the people, and now that I am active again, I wish to continue this service as a legislator,” she stated. She also emphasised that while she has begun her groundwork, the final decision on ticket distribution lies with the Congress high command.

When asked about her husband Navjot Singh Sidhu, the former Punjab Congress chief, Navjot Kaur chose not to elaborate but confirmed that she is determined to contest the 2027 Punjab elections. “The party may even conduct a survey; I am confident people want me to fight from Amritsar East,” she added.

Her announcement has sparked political activity within the Congress, as the Amritsar East constituency now has at least three strong contenders. Apart from Navjot Kaur Sidhu, former Improvement Trust chairman and senior Congress leader Dinesh Bassi has been working in the constituency for years and is seen as a prominent aspirant. Additionally, former MP Jasbir Singh Dimpa, who has been appointed in charge of the constituency by the party, is also expected to stake his claim.

With multiple contenders emerging, the Amritsar East seat could become one of the most closely watched battlegrounds for the Congress ahead of the 2027 Assembly polls.
