Shocking Case: UP Man Wanted Wife to Look Like Nora Fatehi, Forced Daily Workouts, and Killed Her Foetus

A 26-year-old Ghaziabad woman, Shanu (also known as Shanvi), has filed a shocking complaint against her husband, Shivam Ujjawal, and his family, alleging severe mental, physical, and emotional abuse since her arranged marriage in March. According to Shanu, her husband, a government school physical education teacher, wanted a wife with a body like Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi. She was forced to exercise for three hours daily, and failure to comply resulted in being denied food for days.

Lavish Rs 77 Lakh Arranged Marriage Turns Nightmare

On March 6, Shanu (also called Shanvi) married Shivam Ujjawal in Ghaziabad through an arranged marriage. Her family reportedly spent over Rs 76 lakh, including Rs 16 lakh in jewellery, a Rs 24 lakh Mahindra Scorpio, and Rs 10 lakh in cash as dowry.

Shanu, 26, had high hopes for her new life, but things quickly turned grim. Her mother-in-law kept her busy with endless household chores and restricted her time with Shivam. The couple was even barred from going out together.

On one occasion, Shivam, a government school physical education teacher, became enraged because Shanu hadn’t set up a mosquito net. He stormed off to his parents’ room, leaving her behind, while his parents verbally abused her and Shivam physically assaulted her.

Forced to Attain “Nora Fatehi-Like” Body

Shanu was frequently blamed for “ruining” Shivam’s life, as he believed he could easily find a partner like Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi.




"Despite my average height and fair complexion, I was subjected to body shaming. My husband is more interested in other women; he keeps watching objectionable videos of women on YouTube and Instagram," Shanu stated in her complaint.

To meet Shivam’s unrealistic expectations, she was forced to exercise for three hours daily. On days she could not complete the routine, she was reportedly denied food for several days.

Lack of Privacy, Dowry Pressure, and Physical Abuse

Shanu was never allowed privacy; her bedroom door had to remain open, and her father-in-law would enter unannounced. "My father-in-law, KP Singh, said he comes to check on his son," Shanu recalled.

When Shivam once threw a diary at her, hitting her face, Shanu complained to her in-laws. Instead of reprimanding him, they demanded she bring new clothes and an oven toaster griller (OTG) from her parents’ home.




Shivam and his family also repeatedly demanded more cash, land, jewellery, and expensive items. Refusal led to constant mental abuse, with Shanu being called ugly and told her husband deserved a better partner. “Shivam called me fat and ugly, and asked me to leave the house,” she said.

On another occasion, Shanu caught Shivam chatting with a woman named Mahi. When confronted, he reportedly slapped her.

Shanu also witnessed her brother being abused by Shivam for no reason. When she objected, her mother-in-law and sister-in-law forced her to bow and apologize to her husband.

Forced Abortion and Escape from In-Laws

When Shanu discovered she was pregnant, she shared the news with her in-laws, but they ignored her. A few days later, her sister-in-law, Ruchi, reportedly forced her to take a pill. “Shivam said if he cannot accept me, how will he accept my child? When I checked online, I found the pill was for abortion,” Shanu said.

She also alleges being fed curd with spices, supposedly for the fetus, which caused her throat to burn severely by the fifth day.

On June 18, seeing her condition, Shanu’s parents took her home. That same day, Shivam and his family reportedly called her, cursed her, and threatened divorce.

By July 9, after falling seriously ill and visiting a hospital, Shanu had suffered a miscarriage due to significant blood loss. When she returned to her in-laws on July 26, they denied her entry and refused to return her jewellery and clothes.

Since then, Shanu has been living with her parents. On August 14, she filed a formal complaint alleging mental, physical, and emotional abuse, dowry harassment, abetment to miscarriage, blackmail, and threats of divorce, demanding a full investigation.
