In a disturbing incident from Mumbai’s Mankhurd area, an 11-year-old boy was mauled by a Pit Bull that was deliberately let loose on him by its owner. The shocking act was caught on video and has triggered outrage online.

The boy, identified as Hamza, was sitting inside a parked auto-rickshaw when the dog, unleashed and uncontrolled, was placed beside him. The owner, Mohammad Sohail Hasan (43), sat in the front seat, visibly amused as the child trembled in fear. He made no effort to hold the dog back.

Seconds later, Hamza’s fear turned into horror. The dog suddenly lunged and bit his chin. Panicked, the child screamed and tried to flee, even as the Pit Bull clung to his clothes. While Hamza scrambled out of the rickshaw, the dog continued to chase him — and the owner? He kept laughing.

“I begged him to help me, but he just laughed,” Hamza later said, still shaken. “The dog bit me. Then, I ran away. He even grabbed my clothes. No one even helped. They were just filming the attack.”

Following a complaint filed by the boy’s father, the police have booked Hasan under several sections, including 291 (negligent abandonment of animals) and 125 (causing simple hurt) of the Indian Penal Code and BNS. He has also been served a notice under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The case has raised serious questions about pet ownership responsibility, bystander apathy, and how cruelty can sometimes wear the face of amusement.
