Stampede At UP’s Awsaneshwar Temple: 2 Dead, Several Injured After Electric Shock Panic

A spiritual gathering turned into chaos in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki as a stampede at the Awsaneshwar Mahadev temple claimed two lives and injured dozens on the night between July 27 and 28. The tragedy occurred during a crowded jalabhishek ritual dedicated to Lord Shiva.
"All except one patient brought to the Haidergarh Community Health Centre have been discharged. Ten people were brought to Trivediganj Community Health Centre, of which two were declared brought dead. The remaining are stable and being treated," said Awadhesh Kumar Yadav.
Police forces were deployed immediately to manage the situation and control the crowd.
This unfortunate event comes just a day after another temple stampede at Haridwar’s Mansa Devi temple, which left six dead and several others injured—raising serious concerns about crowd management during religious gatherings.
Electric Shock Sparks Panic
According to officials, the panic began when a monkey jumped onto an electric wire, snapping it and causing it to fall onto a shed inside the temple premises. The fallen wire triggered an electric shock, sparking fear among devotees and resulting in a stampede.Injuries and Emergency Response
Barabanki District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi confirmed that around 29 people were injured in the incident. “Devotees were offering prayers when a monkey jumped onto an electric wire, causing it to fall on a shed. This led to an electric current passing through the structure. Medical treatment of the injured is underway. Around 19 people were injured, with two in serious condition,” he said.Two Declared Dead at Health Centre
Emergency services quickly responded, shifting the injured to nearby health centres. Ten people were taken to Trivediganj Community Health Centre, where two were declared brought dead. Others were stabilized and are under treatment.
