A shocking video from Gurugram has gone viral, showing a man brutally attacking a person who was feeding stray dogs. The incident, which reportedly took place on 23 August, shows the accused striking the victim from behind with a stick and issuing death threats.
In the clip, the attacker can be heard shouting, “Why are you here? Who sent you here despite the SC order? Kaat ke phek dunga’ (I’ll cut you into pieces and throw you somewhere).” The victim, who appeared to be on a phone call while seated on a bike, was hit once and nearly attacked again before another individual intervened.
Police have taken note of the matter. “We have registered an NCR in this case. We will arrest the accused soon and file the chargesheet,” said Gurugram ASI Sandeep Kumar.
Animal welfare groups were quick to respond. Gurgaon Dogs Adoption, which shared the video online, clarified: “Feeding community dogs is not illegal. The Supreme Court has only directed designated feeding spots - it has never banned feeding.”
The incident comes in the wake of the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on stray dogs. Earlier, the court had asked for stray dogs to be confined to shelters, but the order was later modified. It directed the re-release of vaccinated dogs in Delhi-NCR, except those with rabies or aggressive behaviour. Importantly, the apex court also banned feeding strays on public streets, insisting that food must be given only at designated zones marked with notice boards.
While the police have promised swift action, the video has reignited the debate over stray dog feeding rules and the disturbing rise of vigilante behaviour around it.
