The Andheri Regional Transport Office (RTO) has seized the autorickshaw of a driver caught on camera assaulting a minor passenger near Andheri railway station. The disturbing 16-second video, now viral, shows the boy being dragged out, beaten repeatedly, and even begging for mercynwhile bystanders stood by without intervening.

Public outrage over the footage prompted swift action. The RTO has issued a notice to the driver, asking why his license and permit should not be revoked. As reported by Hindustan Times, an RTO officer said, “We have asked him to explain why his driving license should not be revoked and his permit suspended for assaulting a passenger. This is a serious case of misconduct and violence.” The officer further noted that under the Motor Vehicles Act, authorities can suspend or cancel a driver’s license for passenger assault or unsafe conduct.

The DN Nagar police traced the driver and summoned him for questioning. No formal complaint has been filed yet by the boy or his family. During interrogation, the driver admitted to hitting the passenger, claiming the incident began over an unpaid fare of ₹140 for a ride from Santacruz to Andheri. He alleged the boy, intoxicated at the time, refused to pay and abused him.

“According to the driver, the passenger refused to pay and abused him. He admitted to hitting the boy, which was captured on video," said an RTO official.

Officials are now verifying the details of the trip. The video hints at other passengers being present, raising suspicions of illegal ride-sharing.

The viral clip has not only triggered anger over the driver’s violent behaviour but also criticism of bystanders who chose to record the assault rather than intervene. Authorities are reviewing the case further, with the driver’s license now under serious threat.
