Shubman Gill Breaks Virat Kohli's Major IPL Record Despite Injury Scare

Shubman Gill keeps his outstanding form in IPL 2026 intact despite facing an ankle injury concern during the Gujarat Titans' game against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. Not only the GT skipper decided to continue his batting even after hurting his ankle but he eventually registered an IPL milestone.

 

The Gujarat Titans batted first at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium and both Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan got the hosts off to a great start. The opening partnership was for 118 runs for the first wicket before Sudharsan departed.

 

During the innings Shubman Gill scored another half century, but appeared to injure his right ankle while turning for the second run and after the ninth over called for the physio, with the batter in evident pain.

 

However, medical support wanted him to walk away, but Gill opted to carry on and later had a treatment on his ankle to resume his innings.

 

Shubman Gill Registers Big IPL Record

 

GT skipper Shubman Gill scored 84 off 44 balls and his tally for the IPL 2026 has reached 462 runs in 10 innings at an average of 46.2.

 

In this process, Gill scored 400 or more runs in an IPL season for the seventh consecutive year, becoming only the fourth player in IPL history to achieve this feat.

 

This feat is considered enormous since not even the run machine Virat Kohli had registered seven consecutive IPL season of scoring 400 or more runs.

Gill and Sai Sudharsan continued to climb the list of most 100+ opening partnerships in IPL history., equalling Virat-Gayle's record of 9 century stands in IPL. The duo, in the match against RR, also improved their record of most runs as the opening partners for the Gujarat Titans.
