Actress Bhavana Ramanna announces pregnancy at 40, expecting twins!

Bengaluru: Popular Kannada film actress and classical dancer Bhavana Ramanna has announced that she is six months pregnant with twins through In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF). Taking to Instagram, the 40-year-old actress shared her emotional journey to motherhood as a single woman, highlighting the challenges and support that helped her realise her dream.
In a deeply personal post, Bhavana revealed that she decided to embrace motherhood after turning 40, although it was never a priority in her younger years. As an unmarried woman, she faced rejection from several IVF clinics that refused treatment based on her marital status. However, her encounter with Dr. Sushma at Rainbow Children’s Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, changed everything.
“She didn’t judge me. She simply asked, ‘Are you ready?’ And I said yes,” Bhavana wrote. She went on to conceive twins in her very first IVF cycle under Dr. Sushma’s care.
Bhavana also opened up about societal prejudices. She noted that some medical professionals refused to even consult with her after learning she was unmarried. “Some questioned my choice — but I knew in my heart: I was ready,” she said, affirming her decision to become a mother on her own terms.
The actress expressed gratitude to her family, particularly her father and siblings, for their unwavering support. Recalling a touching moment, she said her father had told her, “You are a woman, and you have every right to be a mother.”
Bhavana, who is known for her roles in films such as Chandramukhi-Pranasakhi and Nee Mudida Mallige, also addressed the future of her children. She said they would be brought up in an environment rich with “art, music, culture, and unconditional love.” Acknowledging the absence of a father figure, she said, “They’ll grow up surrounded by strong, kind male figures — my brother, my cousins — who will give them the emotional balance that matters.”
The announcement has been met with widespread praise. Fans and followers have lauded Bhavana for her courage and honesty. Her story has sparked conversations on IVF, single parenthood, and the right of women to choose their path to motherhood.
Bhavana concluded her post with a powerful message: “I didn’t choose this path to rebel — I chose it to honour my truth. If my story inspires even one woman to believe in herself, that’s enough.”
She also thanked Rainbow Children’s Hospital for playing a key role in her journey. The hospital’s Bannerghatta centre is known for handling complex fertility cases and has now been highlighted for enabling Bhavana’s successful conception.
Bhavana’s story is being seen as a bold and empowering example of a woman taking control of her life choices.
