Hindi song tribute to Dalai Lama's 90th Birthday to be performed in Dharamshala
Musician Som Dasgupta is on cloud nine. “In celebration of Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday on July 6, the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) has commissioned a special Hindi song to mark the occasion. And they approcahed me to compose the song. This composition, is a heartfelt tribute that blends Indian classical influences with spiritual warmth,” said Som. He added, “After composing the track, I was invited to Dharamshala by TIPA to personally train its students in performing the song. The sessions culminated in the students recording the track for a special music video that will be unveiled during the birthday celebrations.”
Playback singer Mohit Chauhan has lent his voice to the song, alongside Bidisha Sen, a distinguished disciple of Begum Parveen Sultana and Ustad Dilshaad Khan. “The duo will perform the piece live, accompanied by TIPA’s students, in front of the Dalai Lama on July 6,” informed Som.
The performance will be broadcast internationally and is expected to be watched by spiritual leaders and global dignitaries. The initiative reflects the powerful role of music in bridging cultures and paying homage to the spiritual legacy of Dalai Lama.
