Is Dilip Joshi Leaving Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah? Asit Modi Clarifies

In a recent interview, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah creator Asit Modi finally spoke up about rumours suggesting veteran actor Dilip Joshi—who plays the much-loved Jethalal—is leaving the show. His response? A firm denial.

Why was Dilip Joshi absent from some episodes?

Modi explained that Joshi had “personal commitments,” which kept him away from a few episodes. “But that doesn’t mean he’s quit,” Modi clarified in his chat with ETimes. He added, “It’s not always possible for the story to revolve around just one character. People start assuming things, but I stay focused on the storyline and ignore these rumours.”

The speculation began when fans noticed that both Jethalal (Dilip Joshi) and Babita Ji (played by Munmun Dutta) were missing from the show’s recent ‘Bhootni’ vacation storyline. Meanwhile, other popular characters like Taarak Mehta, Anjali, Bapu Ji, Popatlal, and Sodhi were featured in the haunted bungalow plot—leading to concern among viewers.

“Social media can be negative”

This isn’t the first time Modi has addressed such exit rumours. Speaking earlier to Money Control, he shared, “Social media these days has become so negative. Taarak Mehta is a positive, family show that spreads happiness. It’s not right to spread rumours over small things.”

Modi urged fans to remember the show’s positive purpose: “Some people should think positively about it. Saying anything inappropriate isn’t a good thing.”

Dilip Joshi and Munmun Dutta are still part of the cast

Finally, Modi reassured viewers that both Dilip Joshi and Munmun Dutta are very much part of the TMKOC team. “Lekin kuch nahi hai, sab log hamari team ka part hai… They were not present at that time due to some personal reasons. So, there’s no such issue”, he explained.

With this clarification, fans can rest assured: Jethalal isn’t going anywhere.
