John Abraham and director Rohit Shetty have resumed filming their much-anticipated biopic on former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria. The film, based on Maria’s compelling autobiography, has now entered its second leg of shooting, with the team planning an intense 65-day schedule across real locations in Mumbai and Wai.

After a brief break following the completion of the first schedule, Shetty and Abraham are back on set — and this time, the focus is firmly on capturing the real energy of Mumbai. A production insider shared to Mid Day that the goal is to bring authenticity to the screen by filming in places that were central to Maria’s career.

Reportedly, Rohit Shetty is keend about making it a grounded story and the reason why it's shot in Mumbai is to give it a lived-in-texture feel. Notably, scenes will be filmed at iconic city landmarks, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dongri, and the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel.

Shooting Around the Rains, Action to Follow Later

For now, the team is concentrating on indoor scenes, working around the unpredictable monsoon. Once the rains ease, a large-scale set will be constructed to shoot the film’s major action sequences — something Rohit Shetty is known for.

The team intends to wrap up the entire shoot by the end of September, with filming expected to continue without long pauses. The director is said to be fully focused on giving the story the treatment it deserves.

A Career Marked by High-Stakes Cases

Rakesh Maria’s life offers plenty of drama for the big screen. As one of India’s most well-known police officers, he led investigations into several major cases, including the 1993 Bombay bomb blasts, the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, the Neeraj Grover case, and the Sheena Bora murder. His sharp instincts and investigative style made headlines over the years.

Once this project is complete, Rohit Shetty reportedly plans to shift gears and begin work on Golmaal 5 in early 2026. The comedy franchise, which began in 2006, will see Ajay Devgn and the original team return for another round of laughter.
