A Terrifying Break-In At Home

Earlier this year, Saif Ali Khan experienced a frightening home invasion when an intruder entered his house late at night. What began as a shocking discovery quickly turned into a violent confrontation when Saif rushed to protect his family. During the struggle, the actor suffered serious injuries to his neck and spine injuries that could have had permanent consequences.

“It Was Very Close”

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Saif reflected on just how narrowly he escaped a life-changing outcome.
“I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to have gotten away with it the way I did, because it was very close. There was a nick to my spinal cord, and that could have led to paralysis, because I had lost feeling in my leg for a while,” he said.

He admitted that the fear hasn’t fully left him.

“And that concept of being bedridden forever, or being paralyzed, is frightening and still frightens me. So I don’t know if that means I’ve changed, but I’m appreciative that I am healthy, and that keeps me grateful.”

A Deeper Sense Of Gratitude

Saif added that he has always believed his life has been shaped by privilege and good fortune, and this experience only reinforced that belief.

“I’ve always kind of been grateful, and I know that every day is a blessing. This might have accentuated it slightly. I think I’ve always lived a certain way, knowing that it is a privilege and that we’re very lucky to even go through life the way we do.”

Humor Amid Horror

Even while revisiting such a frightening memory, Saif’s signature humor found its way into the conversation.
“And yeah, I get the feeling I have kind of nine lives. Having said this, I might be gone tomorrow, and then you can say, ‘Oh my God, he just said nine lives.’ But I’ve been very close very often.” He added that the incident was “quite close and scary.”

Recounting The Night On ‘Two Much’

Earlier, during his appearance on Two Much, the talk show hosted by Twinkle Khanna and Kajol, Saif described the horrifying sequence of events in detail. He recalled that “Kareena had been out (the previous night), and I had just finished watching a movie with the boys (his children Taimur and Jeh). So, we went to sleep quite late, around two in the morning. After Kareena returned, we had a small chat before we turned in. Then, the maid came in, and she said, ‘Jeh baba ke kamre mein koi hai. Uske haath mein chaaku hai aur bol rahe hai usko paisa chahiye.‘ (There’s someone in Jeh’s room. He has a knife in his hand, and he says he wants money.”

A Harrowing Face-Off

Saif said he immediately rushed into Jeh’s room in the dark and came face to face with the intruder.
“I kind of heard that and rolled out of bed. I barged into Jeh’s room in the dark, and I saw this guy standing over his bed with a knife. I tried to remember my training and blocked a couple of them. But then I felt a thump in my back that was really hard. By then, everyone was out of their rooms. Gita, our domestic help, aided me in this struggle and pushed the guy off me. She saved my life at that point because he had cut me everywhere. Then we locked him in a room.”
A Night That Changed Everything

While Saif Ali Khan survived the ordeal, the memory of how close he came to permanent damage continues to haunt him. The incident has left him more mindful, more appreciative of everyday life, and deeply thankful for the people who stood by him during one of the most frightening moments he has ever faced.
