The Bollywood box office witnessed a major clash on August 1, as two highly anticipated sequels—Son of Sardar 2 and Dhadak 2—hit the big screen. However, both films failed to generate excitement among audiences, while an older release, Saiyara, continued to dominate the box office.

Ajay Devgn returned with Son of Sardar 2 , alongside Mrunal Thakur and Ravi Kishan, after the success of Drishyam 2 and Raid 2. Despite high expectations, the film had a slow start. According to reports from Sacnilk, the comedy entertainer earned just ₹0.11 crore from morning shows on its opening day. Given the low turnout, the film is expected to earn only around ₹8 crore in total, with slim chances of reaching double-digit earnings.

On the other hand, Dhadak 2 , starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, also failed to make a big impact. With limited screens and low buzz, the romantic drama collected merely ₹0.09 crore in its initial shows. Trade experts suggest the film might close its opening day at around ₹2.5 to ₹3 crore. Despite being a sequel to the successful Dhadak, the film struggled to connect with its target audience.

Meanwhile, Mohit Suri’s Saiyara, now in its third week, continues to perform strongly. On Thursday alone, it earned ₹6.50 crore, and projections indicate a potential rise to over ₹7 crore on Friday. Its consistent performance has not only surprised trade analysts but also affected the business of the newly released films.

The unexpected strength of Saiyara has clearly dented the opening prospects of both Son of Sardar 2 and Dhadak 2. With better word-of-mouth and continued viewer interest, Saiyara has positioned itself as the current box office leader, while the sequels face an uphill battle in the coming days.

In a summer packed with sequels, the audience seems to have made its choice clear—original content with emotional depth and strong storytelling continues to win hearts, even weeks after release.
