In a major shift from his usual action-packed roles, actor Sunny Deol will portray a family man in his upcoming film Safar. Directed by Shashank Udapurkar, the movie is set to release directly on an OTT platform rather than in theaters. This marks a departure from the typical Deol starrer, especially after his recent blockbuster, Gadar 2: The Katha Continues (2023).
A New Chapter in Deol’s Career with 'Safar'
Safar introduces a fresh phase in Deol’s journey as he steps into the role of a middle-aged man rediscovering life. The film follows his character’s personal transformation as he learns to embrace life fully and finds fulfillment in helping others.
A source told Mid-Day, "There is no action in the film; it revolves around Sunny's middle-aged family man, who realizes that one can find happiness only by helping people and learns the true meaning of life."
Deol’s Excitement for an Unconventional Role
Despite being known for his larger-than-life action-packed performances, Deol was quick to accept Safar without hesitation.
The source further said, "When (producer Vishal Rana) and Shashank approached him with the story, he loved it and said yes immediately, despite knowing that it's nothing like what his fan base expects from him."
The film will also feature Simran Bagga and Darshan Jariwala in key roles.
OTT Premiere Planned for 'Safar'
The decision to release Safar on an OTT platform was made due to its emotional and heartfelt storyline. The filmmakers are currently finalizing the streaming platform and aim for a year-end release.
Director Shashank Udapurkar, known for his previous works Anna (2016) and Prawaas (2020), aims to present a new side of Deol’s on-screen persona with this film.
