Saving Private Ryan (1998)

Steven Spielberg gave strong proof of his abilities as a storyteller with Saving Private Ryan, which served as a tribute to America's bravery and determination. Saving Private Ryan centres on a group of U.S. soldiers on a mission to rescue a paratrooper. The film boasted of a realistic screenplay and an intense performance from the legendary Tom Hanks.

The film, which centred on the final months of Abraham Lincoln’s presidency and his fight to end slavery, resonated with the audience thanks to Daniel Day Lewis’ Oscar-winning portrayal of the larger-than-life protagonist.

American Sniper (2014)

Clint Eastwood’s well received film was a skillfully-crafted tribute to modern heroism and patriotism. Based on a true story, the flick focused on the life of  Chris Kyle, the most lethal marksman in U.S. military history. It highlighted the impact of war on the lives of those involved in it. Bradley Cooper carried American Sniper on his shoulders and hit it out of the park with his mature yet intense performance.
