This August, banking operations in India will see multiple closures due to national and regional festivals. With Independence Day and Janmashtami falling back-to-back, many states are set for an extended weekend of limited banking services. Here’s a complete breakdown of when and where banks will remain closed.


Patriot’s Day Closure

In Manipur, banks will remain shut on August 13 to mark Patriot’s Day. Regular operations will resume the following day in the state until the national holiday.

Nationwide Independence Day Holiday

On August 15, all banks across India will be closed for Independence Day celebrations. This annual holiday is observed in every state and union territory, ensuring a uniform closure.

Janmashtami Shutdown in Select States

On August 16, several states will keep banks closed for Janmashtami/Krishna Jayanthi. The holiday will be observed in:

Extended Weekend for Many States

With August 15 (Friday) and August 16 (Saturday) holidays in several states, followed by the regular Sunday closure on August 17, many regions will experience a three-day banking break. Customers are advised to plan transactions accordingly to avoid last-minute hassles.
