The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched the FASTag Annual Pass , and the response has been overwhelming. Rolled out on Independence Day across 1,150 toll plazas on National Highways and Expressways, the scheme quickly drew attention from motorists nationwide.

By 7 pm on August 15, nearly 1.4 lakh users had purchased and activated the pass, while toll plazas recorded around 1.39 lakh transactions. The Rajmarg Yatra app also saw heavy traffic, with 20,000–25,000 concurrent users at any given time. To add to the convenience, subscribers began receiving SMS alerts confirming zero toll deductions.

What Is The FASTag Annual Pass?

The new annual pass is designed for commuters who frequently travel on highways. It allows:

  • Up to 200 toll crossings or one year’s validity, whichever comes first.

  • Hassle-free and contactless transactions, ensuring smooth movement at toll plazas.

  • A seamless upgrade for existing FASTag users, who simply need to switch to the annual plan without changing their tag.

This initiative aims to cut down on repeated recharges and ease the travel experience for daily and long-distance commuters.

Optional But Convenient

The FASTag Annual Pass is an optional service. Users who prefer the current pay-as-you-go FASTag system can continue with it and still enjoy existing benefits. However, for frequent highway travelers, the annual pass promises less hassle, smoother drives, and better time savings.

With its strong debut on Independence Day, the FASTag Annual Pass seems set to become a popular choice among India’s road commuters.
