With rising geopolitical tensions and economic slowdown across the globe, investors are increasingly turning to gold and silver as reliable safe-haven assets. From trade wars and the India-Pakistan conflict to the ongoing Iran-Israel situation, the uncertainty has pushed bullion prices to historic highs in the first half of 2025.

Gold recently crossed the ₹1,00,000 mark per 10 grams (24-carat), while silver surged to a 13-year high, reaching ₹1,12,000 per kilogram. Both metals have seen substantial gains, with gold up 30% and silver rising 26% year-to-date. In comparison, India’s major stock indices like the Sensex and Nifty have only managed modest gains of around 3.64% and 4.42%, respectively.

Experts believe this rally is being driven by strong demand from global investors, supply constraints in the silver market, and consistent central bank gold purchases. Satish Dondapati, Vice President at Kotak AMC, noted that both gold and silver reached record levels in June 2025, boosted by market volatility and high industrial demand—especially for silver.

Aksha Kamboj, Vice President of IBJA and Chairperson at Aspect Global Ventures, also pointed out that despite the fall in jewellery demand by 40%, investor interest remains high in digital gold, ETFs, and lighter ornaments. She attributes this shift to heightened geopolitical risk and increasing demand for precious metals as portfolio hedges.

While gold has slightly dipped following the U.S. Federal Reserve’s hawkish signals and easing bond yields, analysts suggest that continued global risk, central bank accumulation, and a weakening dollar will help maintain its price stability.

Both gold and silver are proving to be smart choices during uncertain times. Gold offers long-term safety and stability, while silver has high industrial demand and growth potential, making it a potentially more volatile yet rewarding investment. The choice depends on your risk appetite and investment strategy.
