The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of intense monsoon activity across several states over the next six to seven days. With flash floods and landslides already causing devastation in Himachal Pradesh, authorities urge citizens in vulnerable regions to remain alert and cautious.
Monsoon Picks Up Pace Across India
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across northwest, central, and eastern India. Regions including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan are likely to witness significant downpours. States like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and West Bengal are also on the radar for heavy showers.
Above-Normal Rainfall Expected in July
According to IMD officials, India is expected to receive more than the usual rainfall in July. Central India, Uttarakhand, and Haryana have been identified as areas at higher risk of flooding. In contrast, rainfall may remain below average in parts of the Northeast, eastern India, and southern peninsula.
Central India and the South on High Alert
IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mahapatra noted that central India, eastern Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, parts of Telangana, Gujarat, and Maharashtra are likely to experience persistent heavy rainfall. People living near rivers and dams are advised to stay cautious due to rising water levels.
13 UP Districts Brace for Torrential Rain
An alert has been sounded for 13 districts in Uttar Pradesh. Meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh confirmed that the monsoon is now active across the entire state. In the past two to three days, various regions have recorded light to extremely heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of waterlogging and localised flooding.
Himachal Pradesh Grapples with Rain Fury
In Himachal Pradesh, relentless rains have triggered 16 cloudbursts and three major landslides, leaving five dead and 16 missing. The state has shut down over 400 roads due to damage and safety concerns. The local meteorological department expects heavy to very heavy rain to continue till July 7, with rescue operations underway in the worst-hit areas.
Safety First: Authorities Urge Vigilance
As weather conditions remain volatile, officials across affected states are advising people to avoid low-lying areas, stay away from swollen rivers, and follow weather updates closely. Emergency services are on standby to manage potential crises as India braces for another spell of intense monsoon rains.
