Monsoon continues to intensify across several parts of India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded multiple rainfall alerts, including an orange warning for nine states and advisories for fishing bans in coastal regions. From heavy downpours in the hills to waterlogging in the cities, the weather is expected to remain turbulent in the coming days.
Orange Alert for Multiple States
The IMD has issued an orange alert for July 8 in parts of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Telangana. These regions are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, posing risks of flooding and traffic disruption.
Delhi-NCR Gets a Breather from Heat
The national capital and its surrounding areas are under a yellow alert today. Light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is expected. The recent showers have brought down both minimum and maximum temperatures by 1–4°C, and Delhi recorded its longest spell of ‘satisfactory’ air quality this year, staying under an AQI of 100 for 12 straight days.

Intense Rainfall Forecast for Central and Western India
Very heavy rains are likely to drench Madhya Pradesh till July 10, while Odisha and Chhattisgarh are expected to be hit hard on July 8. Vidarbha, too, is on alert for July 8 and 9. Goa and the Ghat regions of Madhya Maharashtra could receive heavy showers over the next week. Gujarat, including Saurashtra and Kutch, is expected to face wet conditions through July 13.
South India Remains Hot and Humid
While the west and north are dealing with rains, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal continue to experience muggy conditions. The heat and humidity are expected to persist till at least July 9.
Fishermen Advised to Stay Ashore
The IMD has warned against fishing activities in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. Total suspension of operations has been advised in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat, Goa, and Karnataka due to rough sea conditions.

Kolkata Wakes to Monsoon Showers
Kolkata witnessed heavy morning showers under a yellow alert. Skymet predicts light to moderate rain in several districts of West Bengal including Howrah, Hooghly, Bardhaman, and North and South 24 Parganas.
Infrastructure Hit in Uttarakhand
Heavy rain lashed Uttarkashi on July 7, causing a bridge near Ojri on the Yamunotri highway to collapse. This has severely impacted road connectivity in the area, with efforts underway to restore access.
As the monsoon builds momentum, residents are advised to stay updated with local weather alerts and take necessary precautions against flooding, waterlogging, and travel delays.
