A Hyderabad-bound IndiGo flight stirred concern on Sunday evening after it circled mid-air for nearly 40 minutes before making a safe return to Tirupati Airport . The flight, operating as 6E 6591, was aboard an Airbus A321neo and had 221 passengers on board.
The aircraft took off from Tirupati at 7:42 pm, later than its scheduled departure of 7:20 pm. Shortly after reaching Venkatagiri town in the Tirupati district, the plane made a U-turn and entered a holding pattern, circling above the region. By 8:34 pm, the plane had safely landed back at Tirupati Airport.

While the airline has not confirmed the nature of the issue, sources suggest a suspected technical snag may have prompted the precautionary maneuver. Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 supports this, showing the aircraft in a looped holding pattern after its turn near Venkatagiri.
The situation triggered panic among passengers, many of whom were alarmed by the prolonged circling. Their anxiety continued on the ground, as the flight-reportedly the last scheduled departure to Hyderabad for the day-was cancelled. A video shared on social media captured visibly distressed passengers confronting airline staff about rescheduling and further travel arrangements.
As of Monday morning, IndiGo had yet to release an official statement addressing the incident. Meanwhile, sources within the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) indicated that the aircraft would undergo a thorough technical inspection before it is cleared to resume service. Though no emergency was declared, the extended holding period could point to a systems check or an in-flight fuel management decision.
Passengers affected by the cancellation have been advised to reach out to IndiGo customer service or visit the nearest booking desk for updates and rebooking assistance.
