Through the Bima Sakhi Scheme, LIC is opening doors for women across the country by blending financial independence with meaningful employment. Aimed at building self-reliance among women, especially in rural India, the scheme has already created jobs for over two lakh women - and it’s only growing.

What is the Bima Sakhi Scheme ?

LIC’s Bima Sakhi Scheme is a unique initiative that trains women to become insurance agents. It’s more than just a job - it’s a three-year journey designed to build skills, confidence, and a stable source of income. Women aged 18 to 70 who have passed Class 10 are eligible to apply.

Once selected, candidates are provided with a monthly stipend during their training and earn commissions on policy sales - turning their training into a real income opportunity.

Stipend Structure & Income Potential

Trainees under the Bima Sakhi Scheme receive a fixed stipend that evolves each year:

• Year 1: ₹7,000 per month
• Year 2: ₹6,000 per month
• Year 3: ₹5,000 per month

In addition to the stipend, Bima Sakhis earn commissions based on the number and value of policies they sell, offering them the chance to significantly boost their monthly earnings. On average, many are earning around ₹7,000 per month.

A Step Toward Long-Term Careers

After completing their three-year training, participants are eligible to continue as agents or even apply for a permanent position as an Apprentice Development Officer (ADO) - provided they have a college degree. This gives women a clear career path within LIC, from temporary training to a stable government job.

Government Support & Expansion

The Bima Sakhi Scheme is backed by substantial government funding. For the financial year 2024-25, over ₹520 crore has been earmarked for the programme. As of mid-July, ₹115.13 crore has already been disbursed.

In the current fiscal year alone, Bima Sakhis have received ₹62.36 crore in earnings. With its continued expansion into rural areas, the scheme is set to reach even more women who are looking for income, purpose, and empowerment.
