It has been exactly one month since Sonam Raghuvanshi , accused of killing her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, was lodged in Shillong jail. But even after 30 days behind bars, sources say she has neither shown any signs of remorse nor received a single visit or call from her family members.
According to prison sources, Sonam has surprisingly adjusted to her new surroundings. She follows the jail manual meticulously-waking up on time and maintaining discipline in her daily routine. She is housed near the jail warden's office and shares the space with two other undertrial women prisoners. Despite this, Sonam reportedly keeps to herself and avoids speaking about her past, her personal life, or the crime that brought her here.

“She does not open up to other inmates or the jail staff. It’s as if she has emotionally shut herself off,” a source said. She is being closely monitored through CCTV cameras, though she has posed no trouble so far.
Though not assigned any formal duties yet, Sonam is expected to be trained in sewing and other skill development activities soon. Currently, her only recreational outlet is watching television, which is allowed as per jail rules.
Shillong jail houses a total of 496 prisoners, including just 20 women. Sonam is only the second woman in the facility booked for murder.
A Chilling Case That Gripped the Nation
Sonam married Raja Raghuvanshi on May 11. Just nine days later, on May 20, the couple flew to Meghalaya for their honeymoon-with only a one-way ticket. For three days, they explored the region before vanishing without a trace. Their families, unable to contact them, alerted the police.
What started as a missing persons investigation took a dark turn on June 2, when Raja’s body was found in a gorge-signs of a brutal murder evident. The case drew massive public attention and soon became known as the “honeymoon murder.”
Days later, on the night of June 7, Sonam was found unconscious at a dhaba in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. She was rushed to Ghazipur Medical College for treatment, where she later surrendered to the police. It was revealed that the murder was pre-planned, involving Sonam, her lover Raj, and two others-all of whom have since been arrested.
Since then, Sonam has remained completely cut off from her loved ones. Jail officials confirmed that while she is entitled to receive visits and calls under the law, not a single family member has contacted her since her arrest.
