Good news for last-minute travellers! Booking a seat on the high-speed Vande Bharat Express has become easier than ever. Passengers can now secure their ticket just 15 minutes before the train leaves , thanks to a new initiative introduced by Indian Railways .
Last-Minute Travel Made Easy
Gone are the days when missing out on advance bookings meant missing your journey. Indian Railways is rolling out a new ‘current booking’ system that lets you reserve a ticket up to 15 minutes before departure. Currently being tested by Southern Railway, this facility covers eight Vande Bharat trains and may soon be adopted by Western Railway as well.
Now Book from En-Route Stations Too
Another major update: passengers can now book tickets from intermediate stations based on real-time seat availability. Previously, bookings were only allowed until the train left its origin station. With this upgrade, travellers boarding from mid-route stops can grab a seat even at the last moment.
Online Booking Available
Convenience gets a boost with online access. The current booking feature isn’t limited to ticket counters - passengers can book tickets online, adding to the flexibility. If the trial phase receives positive feedback, Western Railway plans to roll out this system across its network, including in cities like Ahmedabad.
Boost for Small-Town Travellers
This move especially benefits passengers from tier-2 cities and smaller towns, where last-minute travel is more common. It also ensures better occupancy on premium trains like Vande Bharat by cutting down on vacant seats.
With this upgrade, Vande Bharat travel becomes more accessible and hassle-free—perfect for spontaneous getaways or urgent trips.
