As Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla gears up for his return to Earth on July 14, his journey aboard the International Space Station (ISS) marked a heartwarming highlight—an unforgettable dinner in space.

NASA astronaut Jonny Kim recently shared a glimpse of this moment on X, posting joyful pictures of the Axiom-4 (Ax-4) crew floating in zero gravity, their faces lit with smiles and laughter. “One of the most unforgettable evenings I’ve experienced on this mission was sharing a meal with new friends, Ax-4, aboard the International Space Station,” he wrote.

That evening wasn’t just about food—it was a celebration of unity beyond borders. “We swapped stories and marveled at how people from diverse backgrounds and nations came together to represent humanity in space,” Kim added.

The menu? A cosmic treat. The crew began with rehydrated shrimp cocktails and crackers, followed by chicken and beef fajitas. Russian cosmonauts wrapped up the meal with a sweet cake made of bread, condensed milk, and walnuts.

Shukla, who made history as the first Indian to reach the ISS on a private mission, launched aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon last month from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, powered by a Falcon 9 rocket. His selection came after rigorous training with ISRO.

Part of a diverse Ax-4 crew that includes spaceflight veterans Peggy Whitson, Slawosz Uznanski-Wiśniewski, and Tibor Kapu, Shukla has contributed to over 60 advanced experiments during the mission—spanning biology, AI, and materials science.

As Earth awaits his return, Shukla leaves behind not just science, but shared moments and stories that prove space exploration is as much about humanity as it is about discovery.
