If you’re planning a bank visit this week, you may want to reschedule. As per the Reserve Bank of India ’s (RBI) official holiday calendar, public and private sector banks in several states will remain closed on August 25, 27, and 28, 2025. The closures are due to regional festivals and important observances, while digital banking services will continue without disruption.

Bank Closure on August 25 – Guwahati

On Monday, August 25, banks in Guwahati will remain closed in honour of the death anniversary of Srimanta Sankardeva, a revered saint, poet, and social reformer of the 16th century. His legacy continues to be celebrated across Assam, and banking operations in the city will be suspended for the day.

Ganesh Chaturthi Bank Holidays – August 27 & 28

The midweek holidays will primarily be due to Ganesh Chaturthi, one of India’s most widely celebrated festivals.

  • Wednesday, August 27: Banks in Mumbai, Belapur, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Panaji, and Vijayawada will remain closed. Along with Ganesh Chaturthi, certain regions will also mark Samvatsari and Ganesh Puja.
  • Thursday, August 28: Banks in Bhubaneswar and Panaji will observe holidays, coinciding with the second day of Ganesh festivities and the Nuakhai festival.

Regional Nature of Bank Holidays

It is important to note that these holidays are state-specific. Banks in other parts of the country will function as usual. The holiday schedule is issued under the Negotiable Instruments Act, which allows regional variations based on local customs and traditions.

Digital Banking to the Rescue

While branches remain closed, customers can still manage their financial activities through:

  • Internet Banking
  • Mobile Banking Apps
  • UPI Transactions
  • ATMs for cash withdrawals and deposits

However, cheque clearance and other over-the-counter services will only resume once banks reopen.
