Big Change in Tatkal Ticket Booking from July 1: Aadhaar & OTP Now a Must!
Planning to book a Tatkal train ticket soon? From July 1, 2025, new rules kick in—Aadhaar card details and OTP verification will be essential for booking. The Indian Railways is introducing these changes to curb misuse and make the process smoother and more secure for genuine travelers.
If you're booking through the IRCTC website or app, your Aadhaar card must be linked. This step aims to make online bookings more transparent and secure.
From July 15, even those booking Tatkal tickets at station counters or through agents will need to verify their mobile number. An OTP will be sent to your phone, and you’ll need to enter it to complete the booking.
New Timings: Agents Restricted for 30 Minutes
To give everyday passengers a head start, agents won't be allowed to book tickets during the first 30 minutes of Tatkal reservations:
Since most Tatkal tickets are snapped up in the first half hour, this move ensures more fairness in the rush.
IRCTC Cracks Down on Fake IDs and Bots
The IRCTC has already deactivated 2.5 crore fake accounts in the last six months and is still monitoring 20 lakh suspicious users. Many of these were using bots and fake IDs to hoard tickets.
Passengers who don't verify with Aadhaar could now face additional checks or booking restrictions.
What You Need to Do
These changes aim to make Tatkal bookings safer, more transparent, and traveler-friendly. So if you're planning a last-minute train journey, be ready with your Aadhaar and phone!
