International Driving Permit Application Process in India: Online & Offline Methods

An International Driving Permit (IDP) is a legal document that allows you to drive vehicles in foreign countries. Issued by Indian Regional Transport Offices (RTOs), the IDP acts as a translation of your Indian driving licence and is accepted in over 150 countries. Eligibility Criteria

    3. Select “Apply for International Driving Permit”

    4. Fill in Form 4A with required details


  • Upload scanned copies of all necessary documents

  • Complete OTP verification and pay the application fee

  • Book an appointment for RTO visit

  • Visit the RTO with original documents on the scheduled date

  • IDP will be issued after successful verification



  • Offline Method at RTO

    1. Visit your nearest RTO

    2. Collect Form 4A and fill it manually

    3. Attach all required documents and photographs

    4. Submit the application along with the fee

    5. Schedule a biometric and document verification


  • Collect the IDP after approval, usually within a few working days


  • Fees and Validity

    • The application fee for an International Driving Permit is generally ₹1,000 (may vary by state)

    • The IDP is valid for one year or until the Indian driving licence expires, whichever comes earlier

    • Once expired, a new application must be submitted; IDPs are not renewable

    If you applied online, you can track your application status by:


    1. Visiting the Parivahan Sewa portal

    2. Clicking on “Application Status”

    3. Entering your application number, date of birth, and captcha

    4. Viewing your application progress and approval status
