What Is the E-Shram Card

The E-Shram Card is a digitally verified ID card issued to workers in the unorganised sector. It contains a 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN) that identifies the worker across various government welfare systems. It is part of the government’s effort to provide targeted support and track the workforce in informal sectors.


Who Can Apply for the E-Shram Card

The E-Shram Card is available for individuals who meet the following eligibility criteria:


  • Should be a citizen of India

  • Age between 16 and 59 years


  • Must be working in the unorganised sector (e.g., construction, agriculture, street vendors, domestic workers, gig workers)

  • Should not be a member of EPFO or ESIC

    Possessing an E-Shram Card provides access to various social security schemes and benefits:

    • Accidental insurance of up to ₹2 lakh under the PMSBY scheme


  • Priority in government welfare schemes meant for unorganised workers

  • Documents Required for E-Shram Card Application

    Before starting your registration, make sure you have the following documents:


    • Aadhaar number linked with a mobile number

    • Bank account details

    • IFSC code of your bank branch

    • Occupation details

    • Domicile certificate (optional but recommended)



    How to Apply for E-Shram Card Online

    To apply for an E-Shram Card, follow these steps through the official E-Shram portal:

    1. Visit https://eshram.gov.in

    2. Click on "Register on e-Shram"

    3. Enter your Aadhaar-linked mobile number

    4. Enter the OTP received and complete the CAPTCHA


  • Fill in personal details such as name, address, occupation, and education

  • Add bank details for future benefits

  • Review and submit your application

  • Download your E-Shram Card once the process is complete


  • Registration Through CSC (Common Service Centres)

    Those who do not have access to the internet or face difficulty registering online can visit their nearest Common Service Centre (CSC). The staff at CSCs will help you with the registration free of cost. Just carry your Aadhaar card and bank passbook.



    How to Download the E-Shram Card

    Once registration is complete, you can download your E-Shram Card from the portal:

    • Go to the E-Shram website

    • Click on “Update/Download UAN Card”

    • Enter your registered mobile number

    • Use the OTP to login and download your card in PDF format



    How to Update E-Shram Card Details

    If your details change, you must keep your E-Shram data updated:

    • Visit the E-Shram portal

    • Login using your mobile number and OTP

    • Make necessary changes to your profile

    • Save and re-download the updated card



    How to Check E-Shram Application Status

    To track the status of your E-Shram application:

    • Go to the official website

    • Click on “Check UAN Status”

    • Enter your mobile number and captcha

    • You’ll see whether your application is pending, approved, or rejected
