Vaibhav Suryavanshi's barrage powers India to victory over England in first match of U19 ODI series

New Delhi: Vaibhav Suryavanshi showcased his fearless batting once again after IPL 2025 show to power India to a six-wicket win over England in the first Youth ODI of their Under-19 series in Hove on Friday. Apart from Suryavanshi, who was instrumental in the team’s win, Ayush Mhatre (21) blazed with a fine cameo to help India cross the finish line and take a 1-0 lead.

Chasing a score of 175, India got off to a flying start courtesy of Suryavanshi and Mhatre, who raced to 70 without loss in just seven overs. But soon after both the batters fells, vice-captain Abhigyan Kundu did the rest by sealing the chase with a score of 45 not out. Suryavanshi, in his knock of 48 runs off just 19 balls, smashed five massive sixes and three boundaries.

Apart from these three players, Vihaan Malhotra, Rahul Kumar and Maulyarajsinh Chavda scored 18,17 and 16 runs respectively. For the English side, AM French claimed two wickets while Jack Home and Ralphie Albert claimed one wicket apiece. India won the game in just 24 overs to go 1-0 up in the five match series.

India restrict England to 174

Earlier, Indian bowlers proved to be clinical as they restricted the English side to a score of 174 runs in 42.2 overs. India’s bowling unit, led by the spin duo of Kanishk Chouhan (3/20) and Mohamed Enaan (2/37), along with seamers RS Ambrish (2/24) and Henil Patel (2/41), combined superbly to bowl England despite a fighting half-century by Rocky Flintoff (56 from 90 balls).

Apart from Flintoff, Isaac Mohammed contributed with a fine knock of 42 runs while BJ Dawkins scored 18 runs. Rest of the batters failed to make an impact. After the ODIs, there will be two Youth Tests beginning July 12 after the ODI series.
