A video of a foreign tourist picking up trash near a picturesque waterfall in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, has gone viral — and with it, a fresh wave of frustration over the careless littering habits of Indian tourists.
Shared by X user Nikhil Saini, the clip shows the foreigner — clad in a simple blue towel — bending down and collecting plastic wrappers strewn across the rocks. “Maybe if I have free day, I will sit and tell people, ‘pick this up’. I have no problem telling people,” the tourist says calmly, as the camera rolls.
“I have said it many times. Need a generational shift in the mindset. Teach your children that it is bad. I have seen people telling their kids to throw trash out of the car. Civic sense is zero amongst us,” one user wrote, highlighting how bad habits are passed down.
Another bluntly stated, “Hence proved again, it’s not Government fault but Indians are the problem of littering in India.”
“Absolutely shameful. Until people change their mindset, no amount of rules or governance can keep our country clean,” read yet another comment.
Cleanliness isn’t just about rules — it’s about respect. And sometimes, it takes an outsider to remind us what we’re losing.

Saini didn’t mince words in his caption:
“Shameful a foreign tourist is more concerned about nature’s beauty while local tourists keep shamelessly littering such stunning places. No govt or administration is to be blamed — it’s the people who need to change if we ever want a clean country”Online Reactions: Brutally Honest
The post hit a nerve. Comments poured in, condemning the widespread lack of civic sense among domestic travelers.“I have said it many times. Need a generational shift in the mindset. A Mirror to Our Habits
