After a brief spell of relief on Tuesday evening, Delhi-NCR is bracing for more rain. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy showers, strong winds, and a likely drop in temperatures across several northern states. Meanwhile, hill states like Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are on high alert following multiple cloudburst incidents.
Rain Alert Across Northern India
The IMD has issued heavy rain warnings for Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. With soaring humidity and temperatures hovering around 35°C in Delhi, the forecast of showers brings hope for some respite. A yellow alert has been sounded for Wednesday, predicting light to moderate rain and a dip in mercury levels.
Cloudburst Threat Looms in the Hills
Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh continue to bear the brunt of a turbulent monsoon. On Tuesday, cloudbursts were reported in Chamba (Himachal) and Chamoli (Uttarakhand), damaging houses and roads. Authorities have also confirmed a worrying trend - 23 flash floods, 19 cloudbursts, and 16 landslides have already hit Himachal this season.
Toll Rises Amid Rain Havoc
Rain-related incidents in Himachal Pradesh have led to 52 deaths so far, with many more reported missing. The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has cautioned residents, especially in vulnerable districts like Kangra, Mandi, Una, Solan, and Hamirpur, as heavy rain is expected to persist until July 14.
Punjab Also Soaked in Showers
Several districts in Punjab experienced heavy rainfall on Tuesday. The weather department has issued an alert for light to moderate showers in the region today, as the monsoon activity picks up across north India.
As the monsoon intensifies, people across affected states are urged to stay alert, avoid travel in vulnerable zones, and keep an eye on official advisories. The rain may bring relief from heat but also poses serious risks, especially in hilly terrains.
