As the nation celebrates Dussehra , the triumph of good over evil, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah actress Sunayana Fozdar reflects on the deeper meaning of the festival beyond rituals and fireworks. For her, the modern-day Raavan isn’t a ten-headed demon but the invisible weight of societal pressure.

“If I could defeat one Raavan, it would be the pressure to ‘fit in,’” she shares candidly. “Today, people are still judged on the basis of gender, caste, and status instead of their true potential. That’s the Raavan I wish to burn down—because every individual deserves equal opportunity.”

Being an actor has also deepened her spiritual understanding of epics like the Ramayana . She draws immense inspiration from Sita ’s quiet resilience. “Sita’s strength in silence taught me that true power lies in grace, patience, and staying rooted in who you are. Even in silence, the strength of one’s character is the loudest voice.” This philosophy, she says, guides her both in her craft and in life, where humility and inner strength speak louder than words.

Her fondest memory of Dussehra is one shared by many, childhood evenings in the neighborhood, eyes wide with wonder, watching towering Raavan effigies burst into flames. “As kids, we truly believed we were watching evil disappear for real,” she recalls with a nostalgic smile.

This year, beyond the festive lights, she is embracing Dussehra as a season of new beginnings. “I’m learning to say yes to growth and no to self-doubt. I’m manifesting a journey where every ‘no’ brings me closer to the right ‘yes.’”

In a world still wrestling with its modern Raavans, her words echo a timely reminder—that real victory lies not just in defeating external evils but also the invisible ones within society and ourselves.
