Mumbai : There are strong indications that Amol Muzumdar will assume the role of batting coach for the Indian women's cricket team during the upcoming Asian Games in September-October.
"The BCCI is in talks with a big name to coach the Indian women’s team. Amol is in the ‘short list’ but he is likely to become the batting coach of the side," stated a reliable source to TOI.
The new coach, expected to be a well-established and renowned personality, is set to secure a two-year contract. This tenure will be particularly crucial as the Indian women's team prepares to participate in the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh in September-October the following year, followed by the ODI World Cup in India in 2025.
Amol Muzumdar , a highly esteemed figure in domestic cricket, left an indelible mark on the sport, amassing an impressive total of 11,167 runs in first-class cricket while representing Mumbai and Assam. Despite his remarkable performances, the opportunity to play for the Indian national team remained elusive throughout his career.
Transitioning to coaching after retiring as a player, Muzumdar continued to contribute significantly to the cricketing world. As the coach of Mumbai, he played a pivotal role in guiding the team to the final of the prestigious Ranji Trophy in the previous season, showcasing his expertise in nurturing and developing cricketing talent.
The success did not stop there. Under his astute leadership, Mumbai's cricket team went on to achieve further glory by clinching the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the last season. The team's triumph in the domestic limited-overs competition served as a testament to Muzumdar's prowess as a coach and mentor, earning him widespread recognition and praise.
