India is set to host the Men’s Asia Cup in 2025 , while Bangladesh will take the reins for the 2027 edition, both to be played in the 50-over format. This information was disclosed in an Invitation for Expressions of Interest (IEOI) document released by the Asian Cricket Council ( ACC ) for Sponsorship Rights spanning 2024 to 2027.

The ACC document indicates a potential rotation of the tournament between India and Bangladesh. However, it also notes that the schedules, dates, years, formats, and venues of the ACC Tournaments are provisional and may be subject to change, meaning the hosting arrangements are not yet finalized.

Originally, Pakistan was slated to host the 2023 edition of the tournament. Due to political tensions with India, hosting duties were shared with Sri Lanka , where India played all its matches, including the knockout stages. The Indian team emerged victorious, defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final, thanks to Mohammed Siraj’s remarkable six-wicket haul that dismantled the Sri Lankan batting lineup for a mere 50 runs.

During the 2023 tournament, India suffered only one defeat, losing to Bangladesh by six runs in their final Super 4 match.

Currently, the Indian team is being led by new Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, who succeeded Rahul Dravid after the latter’s successful tenure concluded with a T20 World Cup victory in Barbados in 2024. Under Gambhir’s guidance, the team has started strong, winning the T20I series against Sri Lanka with a game to spare.

Suryakumar Yadav, appointed as the captain of the Indian T20I side following the retirements of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, has begun his leadership with two decisive wins against Sri Lanka. The 2025 Asia Cup will be a significant test for Suryakumar as he aims to showcase his leadership and batting skills in the shortest format.
