Cricket star Suresh Raina has officially swapped his bat for the big screen. The former Indian cricketer and Chennai Super Kings icon has announced his entry into Tamil cinema with his debut film, currently titled Production No 1. He broke the news on X (formerly Twitter), sending fans and movie buffs into a frenzy.
“From cricket fields to Kollywood frames, bringing Chennai’s spirit with me. Proud to join this new journey with Dream Knight Stories Private Limited,” Raina wrote on his official handle, along with a sleek promo video.
The film is being produced by the newly launched banner Dream Knight Stories, and is helmed by director Logan, best known for his work on Maan Karate, Remo, and Gethu. The teaser opens in a cricket stadium, with a roaring crowd, a shadowed figure walking in - and ends with Raina’s face etched onto a golden coin. A symbolic nod, perhaps, to his golden innings now entering a new chapter.
“Welcoming Chinna Thala Suresh Raina on board for DKS ‘Production No 1’,” read the official welcome message from the production house on X. The nickname Chinna Thala, meaning “deputy leader,” was lovingly given to Raina by CSK fans for his long-standing role in the IPL franchise.
The grand launch event saw big names from Tamil cinema and cricket come together. Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Shivam Dube lit the ceremonial lamp and wished the team well. “This is a proud moment for all of us who’ve played with Raina bhai. I’m sure he’ll win hearts on screen too,” he said.
Director Logan couldn’t hide his excitement: “It’s a dream to begin my debut as a filmmaker with such a talented team and the backing of Dream Knight Stories. With names like Santhosh Narayanan and Resul Pookutty on board, we are setting out to create something truly special.”
The film boasts a powerhouse crew including music composer Santhosh Narayanan, cinematographer Sandeep K Vijay, production designer Muthuraj, Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty, and stunt choreographer Supreme Sundar.
When asked if his close friend MS Dhoni might make an appearance, Raina flashed a grin and replied, “He should answer that one!”
