Graham Potter confirms Liverpool's worst Alexander Isak fears with new update

Alexander Isak is STILL not fit enough to play two games a week, according to Sweden boss Graham Potter. The Liverpool striker has endured a slow start to life at Anfield since his mega money switch from Newcastle.

Isak did not have a pre-season with his former club - and has consequently taken some time to get up to speed with his new employers. Isak has started just six games in all for Liverpool, scoring once.

Despite his form, the 26-year-old was called up by Graham Potter for the latest Sweden squad. Asked about the forward, the former Chelsea and West Ham boss has confirmed that Isak is still not ready to play two 90-minute games back-to-back.

Speaking in a press conference, Potter said: “He’s had a good week, he’s available. But we have to be smart with him because he’s been out for a while.

“He’s not ready to play two matches for 90 minutes. We have to wait and see until tomorrow.”

Asked if Isak had opened up on his difficult first few months as a Liverpool player, Potter said: “He’s like anybody in terms of the Swedish national team. He’s frustrated with the results we’ve had.

“That’s clear as I’ve said. But all I’ve found here is a group of players that really want to do better, that are frustrated in terms of results-wise where they’re at. They’re just desperate to do well for their country and there’s a real feeling for that.”

Isak and Sweden face what is a pivotal international break over the next week as they aim to rescue what has been a woeful qualifying campaign for next summer’s World Cup. They currently sit fourth in their group after three defeats from four games.

They must beat Switzerland and Slovenia over their next two matches to stand any chance of being at the tournament. Isak has not actually scored for his nation in any of his last three games.

He will also be keen to get back on form for Liverpool in their next game against Nottingham Forest at Anfield next weekend. Speaking about the forward, former Liverpool star Don Hutchinson said: “Totally his own fault.

“He should have been professional, done his pre-season properly with Newcastle. It was only ever gonna be 1 of 2 outcomes. 1. He goes to Liverpool and is 100% first, ready to play! 2. He stays at Newcastle and is ready to play.”
