ICC Annual Rankings Released: India Claim No.1 Spot, Pakistan Drop Down Order

The ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings showed India as the top team after the governing body published its annual update. 

 

Australia advanced to third place in the rankings while India maintained its first position. India lost one rating point to reach 118 points after they held the top position.

 

The top 10 rankings maintained their previous order while Sri Lanka and Afghanistan and England occupied the two remaining spots. 

 

The current top 20 ODI rankings feature teams that include Canada and United Arab Emirates and Namibia and Nepal. Pakistan have also managed to stay inside the top 10.

 

Pakistan dropped to fifth position after losing one rank while their current rating stands at 98 points. South Africa advanced to fourth place after earning 102 points which resulted in their advancement over Pakistan's previous position.

Before this update Sri Lanka had played the most ODI matches but they remained at sixth position with 96 rating points.

 

India achieved their position as the number one team after they won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 and they defeated England in all matches during that same year.

 

India achieved two victories against South Africa during November 2025 which increased their rating points.

 

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were India's best players in ODI matches during the time period from 2023 to 2026. The pair scored more than 3,100 runs, while Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul also made valuable contributions in key wins.

 

The all-rounders Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja contributed significantly through their batting skills. They also demonstrated strong bowling abilities.

 

Kuldeep Yadav has taken the most wickets for India in ODIs since 2023 because he secured 42 wickets from 30 matches.

 

Mohammed Shami follows with 35 wickets in just 14 matches, while Ravindra Jadeja claimed 28 wickets at an economy rate of 4.64 in 24 games.

 

Jasprit Bumrah produced excellent results through his 20-wicket performance across 11 matches which demonstrated India's ability to win matches through their deep bowling resources.

The upcoming ranking update will determine which teams qualify automatically for the ICC Men's World Cup 2027 tournament. According to ICC rules, the top eight ranked teams as of March 31, 2027, will qualify directly along with hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe.

 

South Africa should maintain their position within the top eight according to current projections while Bangladesh West Indies Ireland and Zimbabwe will compete fiercely for the eighth spot which England currently holds.
