'There's a Lot to Learn': Shedeur Sanders Sways Fans With a Heartfelt Promise to Close Out His First NFL Preseason
Shedeur Sanders couldn’t flash much of his class last Saturday against the Rams. Yes, the Browns clinched a much-awaited 19-17 win over the opponent during week 3 of the pre-season, the former Colorado boy contributed only 14 yards and with only 3 pass completions to the victory. It was quite a dry slap to the face of those who questioned Sanders’ spot behind Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. His preseason stat was anything but impressive. But Coach Prime’s son came clean that he’s still competing, unflinched, unwhacked.
Browns QB Shedeur Sanders pays gratitude to fans following the end of his rookie groundworkYes, the number 12 had a forgetful Saturday, but he didn’t want fans to forget the most significant preseason of his career. Sanders capped off his preseason run completing 17-of-29 passes for 152 yards, two touchdowns, and no turnovers, although he got sacked seven times across three games. It’s bittersweet, but it’s a fuel for his dream to start the regular season on a high note.
The Browns just wrapped up their practice before they test it through the lens on September 7th against the Cincinnati Bengals. Sanders, 23, greeted fans via an IG post right after with a sweet thank you note. “ Thanks, everyone, for the 🧡 and support. There’s a lot to learn from this preseason, but I’m really thankful for the opportunity to be out there. Day by day, rep by rep, I’ll keep learning and getting better,” the QB wrote on August 24th.
He will learn, he will grow, certainly with a lot of vision and optimism in his bones. But the question it begs: how well the Browns will handle his early development in order to give him what he truly deserves.
Will Shedeur Sanders make it to the Browns' roster in 2025?His performance doesn’t convince the eminent Colorado passers status, but he’s hopeful. Technically, Sanders needs to work on a handful of issues, including his tendency to drift in the pocket, leaving clean pockets, holding the ball longer than he should, frequent sacks and turnovers, etc. But psychologically, he’s there. He has the roadmap and all the mental tools. But again, would that be enough for him to make it to the coveted 53-man roster of the Browns for the upcoming season?
He responded with a firm ‘obviously’ when the media asked him whether or not he can see himself playing in the season. "I think, overall, as a player, I've put in the work,’’ the QB seems extremely poised in his ability. However, Sanders is aware of the harsh reality. He can only do his part, and the rest depends on the collective official call.
“I feel like everybody feels like they should be on the team. If you ask anybody on the team, would they feel like they belong -- they belong in their own eyes,” the 23-year-old breathed a sigh, “I feel like I do, but I'm my own player. I think about myself in a high regard, of course. It's not my decision.” The Browns officials stated they see no problem in giving all four QBs enough room to play at once. But Sanders being a dog in the long run is still a question.
