In a significant step toward improving digital infrastructure, MapmyIndia has integrated India Post ’s DIGIPIN with its Mappls app . The partnership aims to deliver hyper-accurate geolocation capabilities, ensuring grid-level precision for every citizen and business. By combining DIGIPIN with the intelligent Mappls Pin system, users can now generate a unique 10-character alphanumeric code to precisely mark any location in India. This integration is a direct effort to strengthen the Digital India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives and bridge the gap between the physical and digital landscapes.

What Is DIGIPIN and Why It Matters

DIGIPIN, developed by India Post, is a digital location identifier that offers 3.8m x 3.8m grid-level accuracy. It enables any location in India to be represented using a unique 10-character alphanumeric code. The introduction of DIGIPIN addresses long-standing issues related to vague or incomplete physical addresses, which often hinder last-mile delivery and emergency response services. With DIGIPIN, each address becomes both standardised and digital-ready.

Enhancing DIGIPIN with Mappls Pin

The Mappls app, developed by MapmyIndia, enriches the DIGIPIN system by overlaying contextual data through its proprietary Mappls Pin. These include building names, apartment numbers, floor levels, and nearby landmarks. This dual-layered approach ensures that users not only find a precise location but also understand the surrounding context—crucial for delivery agents, emergency responders, and field service providers.

How to Access the New Feature

The DIGIPIN integration is now live on the Mappls app. Users can simply open the app, search or drop a pin on any location, and instantly receive a unique digital address via DIGIPIN. This address can then be used for navigation, deliveries, or sharing location with others. Whether in urban hubs or remote villages, the tool offers unmatched clarity and usability in digital mapping.

Supporting National Goals: Digital India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat

The rollout of DIGIPIN integration directly supports India’s larger digital transformation goals. Under the umbrella of the Digital India programme and Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission, this initiative helps create a robust geospatial infrastructure that is both indigenous and scalable. It empowers citizens and businesses with a tool that streamlines logistics, enhances e-governance, and boosts service delivery efficiency.

Built on NavIC: A Homegrown Technological Stack

One of the most crucial aspects of this integration is its reliance on India’s indigenous NavIC satellite navigation system. The Mappls app has been built natively using NavIC, marking a complete Indian digital stack from satellite to smartphone. This not only reduces dependency on foreign GPS systems but also ensures better coverage and accuracy for Indian terrain and use cases.

India Post Adopts MapmyIndia's APIs

In a parallel move, India Post has incorporated MapmyIndia’s geospatial APIs into its internal systems. This strategic adoption will enable India Post to optimise its delivery networks, enhance route planning, and improve outreach across remote and hard-to-map regions. It also signals the government’s growing trust in indigenous technology to power its essential services.

Use Cases Across Sectors

The integration is poised to transform sectors that depend on accurate addressing. In logistics, businesses can cut down on delivery errors and rerouting. Emergency services can respond faster with pinpointed coordinates. Government agencies can ensure precise targeting for welfare delivery and citizen services. Even individual users will benefit from seamless food deliveries, cab pickups, and visitor navigation.

Industry Voices Applaud the Move

Rakesh Verma, Co-founder and CMD of MapmyIndia, praised the collaboration as a historic step forward. “With Mappls Pin, we’re adding an intelligent layer on top of DIGIPIN that bridges the gap between the physical and digital worlds—serving every user, whether relying on GPS or otherwise,” he said. He also stated that this initiative “empowers over a billion Indians with a digital postal address for every home and business.”

With the integration of DIGIPIN into the Mappls app, India moves closer to a future where every location is clearly identifiable, digitally mapped, and easily accessible. This initiative not only enhances user experience across sectors but also aligns with the government’s vision for digital empowerment. It marks a turning point in how we understand, use, and share our physical locations in an increasingly digital world.
