ED Continues Crackdown on Illegal Betting, Seizes ₹117.41 Crore from Probo Media Technologies

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently announced a major asset attachment, provisionally seizing properties worth a staggering ₹117.41 crore. This significant ED action is directly linked to an ongoing investigation into an alleged online gambling case involving the company Probo Media Technologies Private Limited and others. This development serves as a powerful signal regarding the government's serious approach to financial misconduct in the digital sector.

The core allegation against Probo Media Technologies is that it ran an extensive online gambling operation while trying to pass it off as a legitimate online gaming platform. The agency was specific in its claim, stating: "Probo Media Technologies Pvt. Ltd. operates the application and website 'Probo', which provides platform for 'online gambling' in the guise of 'online gaming'." Complainants alleged they were misled into a scheme promising easy money through simple 'yes or no' questions, which, in reality, promoted illegal gambling, leading to a substantial money laundering trail.

The sheer scale of the illicit operation revealed during the PMLA investigation is remarkable. According to the Enforcement Directorate, the criminal activities carried out by the company's directors and promoters resulted in 'proceeds of crime' estimated to be around ₹1,245.64 crore. The ongoing investigation started after multiple cases were registered across several regions, including Gurugram and Palwal in Haryana, and Agra in Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the widespread impact of the fraudulent activities carried out by Probo Media Technologies.

The ₹117.41 crore asset attachment includes various forms of wealth that were provisionally seized. These attached assets range from fixed deposits and investments in shares to demand drafts, bank balances, and residential flats held in the names of the company directors’ family members. This recent ED action follows an earlier intervention in July 2025, where the agency had already searched the premises and frozen investments worth ₹284.5 crore. It is also noted that Probo Media Technologies ceased its operations in August 2025, a move that occurred following the promulgation of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, underscoring the legal pressure mounting in this online gambling case.
